Me: “Why have I only just discovered Lena Dunham and mumblecore? Why? Damn you full-time employment! Now to get my hands on her film, ‘Tiny Furniture’, about whinging middle-class hipsters.”
Him: “Great film, saw it in NYC a couple of years ago.”
Me: “Saw it in NYC. What are you trying to prove? I’m talking to you! Well, I saw this film in Guadalajara four years ago. OK. Don’t ever try to culturally top me again. Oh, and by the way, I know how to spell Deleuze. So there. Have I made myself clear?!”
Him: “Your toast is burning.”
Me: “Yes. OK then. And let me remind you that I met Francois Truffaut’s second cousin Colin last week. In Williamsburg. That’s right. Think before you speak. Got it.”
Him: “Go blow yourself 400 times!”
Me: “I know that reference. Fail.”
